Hidden Research on Sugar

January 15, 2018

I listened to Gary Taubes' book "The Case Against Sugar" on our Thanksgiving road trip and was impressed by Gary's extensive overview of how sugar transitioned from being a couple-times-a-year treat to an in-everything-commodity, as well as how the tobacco and food industries used sugar to hook all of us and mask a litany of unhealthy stuff.

A recent article in NPR entitled "What The Industry Knew About Sugar's Health Effects, But Didn't Tell Us" confirms the research shared.

My thoughts are that so many people's lives have been so ruined by their addiction to sugar, fat was blamed, and we have an obesity epidemic!  As fats were removed, sugar was added to make these new "low-fat" foods taste better.

I had a long-standing, unhealthy affair with a doctor through much of my life -- Dr. Pepper :-)  I cringe at the thought of the amount of pure sugar that I ingested over the years and the withdrawals that I went through as I broke off this addictive relationship.
